Welcome to my Blog!


Welcome to the Dairy Mom blog! Glad you’re visiting me today. I’m starting this blog to share accurate information about the dairy industry from my perspective as a dairy producer and mom. Following the tradition of my parents and grandparents, I’ve been involved in the dairy business all my life. I know lots of dairy producers and find them to be honest, ethical, hard working people who truly care about their animals and the quality product they produce.

My blog will cover dairy issues currently in the news and explain common dairy management practices that happen on our farm.

The fact is, dairy farmers work 365 days a year to bring you a safe, nutritious and delicious product. We are dedicated to responsible care of our cows and the milk they produce. I hope you will visit my blog regularly to find out the latest information about dairy.

    As a busy Mom, I find myself often wondering, "where does the food I feed my family come from and how can I easily improve the nutrition and wholesomeness of the food I serve." Thank you for your blog, I found it both interesting and informative. My 18y/o daughter is a vegetarian and has been for a couple of years. During this time I have worried about her protein intake. Dairy is another great source and something she enjoys eating that fills the traditional meat-protein void.
    My question now tho, concerns Whole Milk VS Fat Free. It is my belief that fat free is just as nutritious, is this a correct assumption?

    Hi Jennifer - Thanks for checking out my blog! You are correct, all milk is nutrient-dense providing a high level of essential nutrients compared to its calories. Regardless of fat content (whole, 2%, 1% or nonfat) all milk has similar nutrient content. Each serving of milk provides calcium, vitamin D, protein, potassium, vitamin A, vitamin B12, riboflavin and phosphorus. To meet an adults calcium needs, 3-4 servings of dairy is recommended each day.

    This is great!!!! What a nice way to promote the dairy industry and especially Ohio's dairy farmers. I, for one, truly appreciate how hard dairy farmers work so I have plenty of good milk, cheese and ice cream to eat. Thanks for helping to educate people!!!

  4. People do not realize what a sacrifice it is to do what a farmer does... I raise and milk dairy goats and have a small commercial meat goat herd as well.. My family and I have given up alot of outside activities to devote our time and love to our animals. We enjoy raising them and have since 1990. Our children love the goats as do our grandson. We treat them as a part of the family. I am proud to be a goat farmer and proud to know other farmers in the area! I know how hard they work. Kudos to you Dairy Mom!

  5. I discovered your blog from a FB post by Dairy Farming today. I LOVE IT! I actually just started a FB page for our dairy in central VA. If I can be half as articulate as you are, I will consider it a success :) Keep up the good work!
